I recently bought the Journey to Saturn comic from 1977, and I was rather surprised to discover that they had actually toned a lot of the most disgusting humour down in the 2008 movie, and replaced it with gay jokes instead.
Anyway, there was a cute little moment in the comic that was missing from the movie, because the whole scene didnt really have anything to do with the story and was just a parody of our society. At one point sergeant Arne tries to kill the president on another planet. The plan of course goes horribly wrong, and Arne is overpowered but the alien police who gags and ties him down. He is then thrown in prison, and later handed over to his crew who place him on the floor of their spaceship, but refuse to untie him because he is still angry. They then decide that now would be a good time to clean his wounded hand (which he refuse to do himself for some reason) and that finally calms him down.
Pretty much, it just show more of it, and it's slightly meaner. They meet God, Satan, Mary and even the real Jesus who had just been killed in a car accident. According to the comic Jesus is constantly reborn because he thinks Heaven is boring, and would rather spend time with Satan, so his younger brother pretty much runs Heaven for him.
The original story is from 1977? Wow. It seems so modern in the movie.
