Those of you who follow me on Twitter (humonlazydiva) will know that I've been studying angels and demons in religion and art for months now to a point where it has gotten unhealthy.
I'll tell you more about these guys' stories and who they are later. Right now I just want to talk about their designs. I really like classic angels, and decided to use designs from old paintings. Iadiel and Tubiel are mix and matches from various renaissance angel art, Zamael is closer to Victorian romantic art, and finally there's Amitiel who follows the newer trend of angels in black suits wielding modern weapons.
Don't be fooled by the gun though. It's not an action packed epic, but rather a small collection of short comics, ranging from comedy to tragedy and just plain "slice of life".
Also, while designing them I got very fond of the sketchy style, so even though I've tried making them more detailed I just don't like them in any other style than this. A little disappointing because I wanted it to be more solid looking, but that's the moods of an artist I suppose.
Really nice designs Humon and please don't feel too bad about only liking the sketchy style; angels are sort of ephemeral beings, the idea that they can only be drawn in a floaty, "not-all-there" way seems very appropriate to me. ^_^
Reminds me of a dream I had recently where I was caught between the Earthly and Heavenly mafias, where angles were all enforcers and smugglers and paradise was just an after life protection racket... though, like yours, mine was a lot less action epic than it sounds in gloss, and more like a cross between the comedic parts of "Lethal Weapon" and that new Walken, Pacino movie with just a touch of "The Prophecy".
however, I am officially creeped out by the concept now
