Sam and Dean only kill monsters that have killed people, that's how they find them. The thing is, you can call the cops on humans and send them to prison. You can’t explain to a judge how it was totally a witch curse that killed the victim
Sam and Dean have killed many monsters who haven't killed people yet. Dean especially doesn't believe that monsters should be allowed to live because even if they haven't killed yet, even if they say they don't plan to, because he believes that eventually they won't be able to stop themselves. And they definitely don't bother with cops and judges. They work outside the law
Phoebe once set up an old high-school friend to be melted by a pair of acid-spewing demons through changing his appearance to match Chris' - the one said demons were originally after. He was a jerk, true, but the Charmed Ones are not supposed to pull s**t like that. Remember the episode in Season 2 where the Aesop was "we are supposed to protect the inoocent, not punish the guilty". Well, that one episode in season 6 said, "GO TO HELL! THE REST OF THE SERIES IS TO THE GREATER GLORY OF PHOEBE, SHE WHO IS ABOVE MORALITY!"
Supernatural is SUPER RACIST (against non-humans) it always pissed me off. I mean, why are humans the rule of thumb to which all other creatures have to go by? I mean, they deserve to live too. Ghosts I can understand, but goddamn it. Oh, he eats 3 people every EIGHTY YEARS? Man, what a mindless killing machine. YYH was actually amazing with the whole demon-human, different doesn't mean evil thing. Beautiful.
HOWEVER! No one ever seems to notice that one time where the two witches where having a marital spat that involved murdering all of each others friends and Sam and Dean just got the fuck out of there. Those two witches are still out there, being rich and passive aggressive. It's my favorite episode.
Haha they are acknowledging that there is a grey area recently with characters like Benny, who is a vampire, but doesn't feed anymore on people. But yes, the show /does/ know that its characters are super hypocritical. They aren't heroes. They murder constantly, but they see if you are murdering people and a supernatural monster, thats reason enough to kill. But like I said, their characters are developing and so long as you don't want to murder or aren't murdering, they don't want to hurt them. And they don't believe in killing humans, but they learn some humans are more of monsters than the monsters.
hA! Finally the newest episode. I friggin CHEERED.
Yes, they finally , 9 seasons later, have finally killed human psycho murders. They are still wrestling with the fact that they are human, yes. But they've had a few episodes this season that hammered in the idea that if they're supernatural creatures that do not and will not murder, then they let them slide. Its a slow crawl of a character development, but its a change.
not to say that killing anyone is right, but if our protagonist are going to be fighting in the name of "saving people" and that involves a lot of killing, at least let them not be discriminatory douche nozzles about it
Dont forget the spin off, Supernatural Tribes. It's supposed to center around groups of monsters and i guess kinda look at that gray area of good/bad monsters Also, its not really the show that's anti monster, you can see that with Sam. Sam has always tried to save the good monsters, it is Dean who always wants to kill them no matter what. It's because of the way he was raised, their father taught them that monsters are evil no matter what and Dean always tries to live up to his fathers expectations
