Desu History by humon Desu History by humon
I hope it's obvious that this is NOT how things went down.

Only parts that are somewhat true:
Bohr and Einstein were both rivals who strongly disagreed, but also held each other in high regard and loved having long discussions because they considered each other equals.

Bohr created the theory that made the atomic bomb possible, which he felt bad about because he had hoped it would be for peaceful use only. He somewhat helped in the Manhattan Project but was quoted for saying "That is why I went to America. They didn't need my help in making the atom bomb" and only acted as consultant. Russians tried to get him to tell how the bomb was made, but he didn't know.

Einstein told Roosevelt that he had to make the bomb in case Hitler was making one too, but it would probably have happened even if Einstein had said nothing.

For the rest of his life Bohr tried to get US and UK to share the atomic secrets, but Churchill was very much against it and said Bohr should be locked up.

Geniuses creates something they hope can be used for good.

Fools takes that which is made and uses it for the only thing that they know of: To destroy all else.

It's also worth pointing out that in the 50s Eisenhower approved the use of up to three nukes to level Hanoi and other Viet Minh positions in the Indochina War to bail out France. The deal was conditional on Britain also approving it, and Britain refused to even consider it, that plan (Operation Vulture) was the closest the US ever came to authorizing the use of nukes in conventional warfare

I'm sorry for not being a science nerd or have a creative thinking but HOW THE FUCK DID A THING THAT CAN INCENERATE EVERYTHING IN ITS WAKE CAN BE USED FOR PEACE!!!! As long as u have that kind of brain to make destructive shit like that government won't leave u alone & it'll only cause more damage than the creator could've imagine doesn't take a genius to know that!!! "Oh look i'm too sucked up in the process of theory/formula writing of weapon i didn't know it'd come to this maybe I can try interfere with the country leader here & there maybe they'll listen " well guess what they don't!! And now the warlords decide to use the bomb to destroy each other while involving others innocence ppl in, u'll share those blood they had shed on your hand. Peace out

I think Bohr wanted the knowledge to be used for something like atomic energy, not bombs.

I really hope dats the case. Pardon my over-dramatic reaction it's just... too many lives were involved.. (basically he's Tony Stark in real world then >xl
Kaonashi-Nanashi Featured By Owner Sep 14, 2015  Hobbyist Writer
Comparing Niels Bohr to Tony Stark is a very broad stretch. For one, Bohr's job was a physicist, ie, he sat around all day and did highly complex math problems all day. Tony Stark was a weapons manufacturer (though he did invent crazy shit).

Many things in our modern life are the direct results of experimentation towards bigger, badder weapons during the Cold War. These things weren't want the military had in mind, and they transformed them into something civilians can used, like the microwave oven. Our smartphones have their origins in the Cold War, since the technology was rapidly being developed during this period which lead to cell phones in the 90s, better cell phones in the 2000s and smartphones in the 2010s.

Einstein was really reluctant to give into the American government's prodding about building an atomic bomb, he did eventually and later regretted the choice and was a pacifist the rest of his life.

War is hell. People die in war. Good people and bad people; soldiers and civilians.

By dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the United States effectively shortened the war by a few years. Not only did the atomic bombs save countless American lives, but they also saved countless Japanese lives. The Japanese at the time, would've died for their emperor since they believed the emperor to be a living god.

The atomic bomb is a powerful and deadly weapon, yes, and I hope to the gods that mankind never detonates one again; regardless Truman did the right thing. He had to make a choice between two evils: dragging out the war by invading Japan or showing the Japanese unimaginable power and quickly ending the war. Truman chose the later.

If the gods never wanted mankind to figure out how to split the atom, and thus use that knowledge to make a weapon, then they would have never given us the brain power to do so. They would never had allowed us to ask that troublesome little question:what if...?

Also, there are two sides to everything: yin and yang. It's how the world works.

Judging by your previous comment, you are probably a die-hard pacifist. While pacifism is a grand idea, it's implication in the real world struggles to solve problems before they start. WWII is a classic example of this. Neveil Chamberland (the UK prime minister before Churchill) was very much of the pacifist mentality. He allowed Hitler to expand into Eastern Europe and effectively set off WWII. Some men can be reasoned with, others cannot. We need to understand that when we come across such men.

It's funny. We see the writing on the wall, right now, and we are all congratulating ourselves on being able to recognize it as writing, only Israel comprehends the writing and has turned around to see the danger we are facing currently. Israel is tugging at our sleeve, trying to get us to turn around, yet we [the Western World] are still celebrating about being able to recognize the writing on the wall.

We may not forget, that Bohr wasn't working on his own, but owes a lot to his partner Lise Meitner. [link] When it got to the fame though, he didn't mention her, because she was a woman...

Today in science we learned about some scientists one of which was Niels Bohr. The kids in my class said that he was boring. I mentioned this comic and my teacher said "Oh can you find the comic and show me?"
Now I have to show him kawaii desu Winston Churchill.

From the very first picture all the way to the end there was this pressure, almost demonic in nature, pressing down on my throat as I progressed... and it wouldn't relent in the slightest, even as I told myself that it was okay, it's a picture, a comic, fiction at its finest. As long as I remind myself it is not real, then I can relax.

Alas, I write this from my death bed. I hope you're happy.

We had a cool phrase on a sticky, on spanish:

A accuratte traslation should be:

Good comic humon, we should learn more about Einstein the man before Einstein the scientist.

Actually Einstein deplored the use of the bomb. He had sent a letter to Roosevelt talking about the possibilities of the bomb, and then another decrying its use or invention. However Roosevelt died with the letter unopened.

Einstein created the theory that made the atomic bomb possible. His theory of relativity was proven once the Nazis split an uranium atom for the first time. Bohr approached Einstein and told him that it was going to be necessary for him to help the US create an atomic bomb to make sure the Nazis would have competition/an enemy able to match or surpass them in force.
To put it succinctly, you should have switched Bohr and Einstein in the first two panels. Bohr didn't tell Roosevelt to make the bomb either, he approached Einstein beforehand and convinced him to write a letter to Roosevelt to begin the creation of their own atomic bomb.
