Loki and His Children by humon Loki and His Children by humon
DON'T take this seriously. I took a lot of liberties with this, I know, but this is how I wanted to draw it. Draw your own version if you feel a need to make a more correct one.

Loki you whore! :XD:

The big snake in the back in the Midgard Serpent, the wolf is the Fenris Wolf, the half-dead looking woman is Hel (guidian of the underworld), all of whom he had with a jotun woman (or Ice Giantess. God I hate the English word for jotuns)

The horse is Slejpner whom Loki gave birth to in the form of a female horse himself, the troll is one of the troll women he also birthed, apparently in the form of a human man.

The two normal looking boys are Narfe and Vale whom he got with his wife Sigyn. They're not too normal though, as one will be turned into a wolf later and accidentally kill his brother.

I thought about adding a random human too, because apparently he had sex with a ton of men in the form of a human female and gave birth to quite a few children on earth, but I couldn't be bothered. :XD:

So I have never really explored deviant art before, but tonight a friend linked meto this image. I wanted to thank you so much, I created a profile just so I could do that.

I am a Northern Tradition pagan, which means I worship and work with the Gods from the Norse/Germanic/Scandinavin mythologies and Gods. I am an aauthor and priest, even.

I also identify as a child of Loki, in that I structure my personal relationship with Loki as my patron deity, as a son relates to a dad. Others in my tradition choose (or are chosen) to relate to him as an Uncle, mentor, lover, or teacher. So this image was sent to me because I needed a little spiritual soothing. My mother died three weeks ago, and it rocked my world a lot.Remembering that I still have Family (even if its not the same) made me feel better.

So I wanted to thank you for this, as I found it sweet and touching. if I had a criticism, it would be that Angrboda would look more...wild, I guess? Mostly to differentiate her from Sigyn.

(Oh, and if my posts have errant letters or odd spacing, my phone loves to mess with leaving comments on websites. I apologize.

I don't mean to bother.... but I always thought Hel was depicted as half decay, half life, where one side of her was described as "the most beautiful woman" while the other half was considered "Dead and Decaying".

I know about Slejpner.... what was Loki's Grandchild's (through Slejpner) name?

English Word? Are you refering to "Jotun" or "Ice Giant"?

Nitpicking aside, love the work. :D

Also.... Fenrir, Hati and Skoll are my favorite Nordic Myths.... Yes I know they are "evil" (or as evil as you can be considering you mark the beginning of Ragnarok).... But I just can't bring myself to hating them.... they are just big fluffy puppies to me... Q~Q

It's important to note that the Norse myths, as we know them, were primarily chronicled by Christian monks, centuries later. Historians and anthropologists have argued that Norse peoples were unlikely to have thought of Gods and Spirits as "all good" or "all evil". Fenris had a job to do, and without him Tyr would not have had a chance to exemplify self-sacrifice. Like humans, few are irredeemably evil (or good), but are just working with what we've got (even if that means 'what we got' was severe mental illness).

Hate to say it.... but when you were predestined to kill Odin, and you're release signals the beginning of Ragnarok, its hard not to be considered evil... In fact, he wouldn't have even been "evil" if the Aesir weren't unrightly fearful of him, Tyr was the only one brave enough to befriend Fenrir and feed him.... And he was 'rewarded' by being the only one willing to give his hand to bind Fenrir based on a self fulfilling prophecy.

Sometimes has to make you wonder.... Still, I enjoy being a Ranger named Tyr with a Pet wolf named Fenrir in videogames.

He actually only had sex with
His wife, an Asgardian (the species he was raised as)
A frost giantess (the species he actually is, albeit light on the giant)
And he was raped by a horse once because Odin is a jerk and gods apparently can't go back on bets

And he's said to have sex with mortals because every god from every mythology has to sleep with humans and apparently a troll or two. Just be glad he's only ever turned into a female to have sex, rather than sleeping with some human girl while he's a swan or some nonsense.

You do realize most of this information is incorrect? Loki was not raised as an Asgardian, he was raised a Jotunn[the word ice giant is incorrect due to many of them not being giant nor having anything to do with ice, they are more of a nature spirit or god than anything else]. Also he was not raped, he willingly mated with the horse, to help Odin with the bet that he had made. However I don't disagree with you on the fact that Odin is a jerk.
Also not all of the gods slept with humans, however Loki seemed to enjoy to do so. Also you cannot say that Loki also slept with trolls due to the fact that he technically is the mother to the trolls. That would be incest.

Umm..... in Gylfaginning I think it says that Váli was turned into a wolf and forced to rip his brother Narfi apart, and then his intestines were used to bind Loki on the stones.

The key word here being FORCED. Not accidental.

But I guess that's not relevant, is it?

In the Swedish version of the Norse mythos, I think, Loki was born of the jotun Laufey, then abandoned and taken in by Odin as his own. Either that, or the folks at Marvel Comics rewrote the story for "Thor".

They rewrote it. Loki is a sort of foster brother to Oden in the Swedish version.  (His father is Farbauti, and his MOTHER is Laufey.) Their personalizes is pretty correct tho.

(This is where I found all the facts. It's all in swedish, so don't know if they will be of use for you).

I didn't know Fenris had something to do with Loki.
I mean, I know that one of the signs of Ragnarok is that Fenris will open its maw until the top reaches the sky and the bottom the ground, but that's about it.
Exactly what is Loki's role in Ragnarok? I mean do Valkyries get einherjar for him too?

Hmm, Loki was the leader of the giants and monsters in Ragnarök. He steered the boat with which the evil guys got to Bifröst. He also fought Heimdall, and both Loki and Heimdall died in that battle. Fenrir is Loki's son, and he killed Odin.

About him mating with a frost giantess... Wasn't he himself a jotun that was raised by Odin, or was that just in the movie?

As the lore goes, when Loki was young he was married (or in some sort of relationship) with Angrboda, who was more of an Earth Giant. She was some sort of chieftan or warrior of the Ironwood, a forest in the Jotun lands.

Later on, Odin makes him a "blood brother", and that's when Loki goes to live in Asgard. There, he marries Sigyn (and nothing is said about Angrboda), with whom he sires Narvi and Vali. Then, one night when the rest of the Gods forget to invite Loki to their party, he stands up and points out that none of them are perfect, by pointing out each one and sharing some...compromising information (like Freya being, ah, free with her bed). They don't like this, so they banish him into a cave, turn one of his sons into a wolf (possibly because Angrboda was also referred to as a "wolf woman") and is incited to rip out the throat of his brother. Then Loki is bound to a rock with his son's intestines, while a snake drips venom on his forehead (ala water torture) until Ragnorok. Sigyn, who is sometimes called "The Woman of the Staying Power", stays with Loki, holding a bowl to catch the venom; however, she must turn and empty the bowl sometimes, and is tortured by Loki's suffering. He is only freed when Ragnorok happens, and he captains a boat made from toenails (don't ask) as an enemy of the Aesir - because venom/cave/dead children/tortured wife because of saying some shit - and eventually he and Heimdall fight it out and they both die.

Any stories about Loki growing up in Asgard, as Odin's son or Thor's bro, only refer to Marvel!Loki. In fact, Loki's daughter Hel had her named changed by Marvel, because censors weren't thrilled with a name so close to the Christian underworld of devils and torture, so Marvel used "Hela". However, many modern day Norse religionists use Hela, and no one seems to be bothered by it.

so there's your little Norse mythology lesson. There's a great graphic novel called Lords of Asgard (or maybe Gods of Asgard...my copy is currently on lend) that tells some of the foundational stories from that mythos.
