Pink Tutu by humon Pink Tutu by humon

Just a silly little idea.

Teletubbies became too popular for it's own good, and while there were many complaints, the one most people remember was the question of Tinky Winky.

Was he meant to be gay? He carried a red purse around with him, and even wore a pink tutu!

The last one seemed especially silly to Danes because our single most iconic children's character is Bamse (Teddy) from "Bamse og Kylling" who is very male and often wear a tutu when he wants to be pretty. He even fought his gender-less friend Kylling (Chicken) for it a few times.

He never really got popular outside of Denmark, so he is still around, tutu and all. [link]

I feel so bad for little Tinky. He didn't deserve being called gay

He's kissed Kylling on the beak too. Kinda shows how lax we are with stuff like this in the DK, eh? XD

honestly, what the childrens shows is doing by letting male characters wear stereotypical female stuff, is making the characters childish and realistic. ALL children regardsless of gender, will experiment and try out everything they find interesting. They don't care if skirts and dresses are "meant for girls". They only care once their parents tells them that it's not right.

I've never questioned tinky winkys sexuality before. As a child, we're just more accepting of the way things are, because that's how they are :)

Can you believe that people seriously cared about the sexuality of a character meant for toddlers? I mean, WTF?

Thank you. Teletubbies was a show I grew up on, and everyone called it a "faggot's show". I told them to shut up as I ate my tubbytoast-sandwich with joy.

I grew up watching teletubbies, as did my younger sister, we never thought of Tinky Winky as anything out of the blue and I've rarely heard anyone say anything about it since then. It's actually taken you bringing it up for me to realise what he is holding and wearing! Ah well, he's beautiful for it :')

Tinky Winky was my favourite Teletubbie as a child, /because/ he was effeminate. I loved/love it when there are characters that portray a wider view of the world than what is considered 'normal' (whatever /that/ actually means). Men can wear tutus and carry handbags if they so wish; Tinky Winky might be gay, he might not be. Regardless he was the best because he didn't seem to care if what he was doing was 'normal'. In my opinion that's how children should be shown the world, even though their television programs; big and diverse and brilliant. People care/worry too much now-a-days and that could be dangerous; if children are too sheltered by what is 'normal' you're at risk of breeding intolerance. I, for one, hope that never happens.

Rant over, sorry XD

Bamse looks fantastic, by the way!

Finally, a nation that doesn't care that Tinky Winky wasn't particularly masculine! :iconfinallyplz:
Now they can both skip off joyfully into the sunset with their tutus and happiness~!

But seriously, the entire British generation whose childhood was deeply connected to the Teletubbies laugh about it, but never in the end gave a rat's ass that everybody accused the males of being feminine and the females of being...well, unfeminine. Nobody can ruin our beloved Teletubbies ._.

Bamse, the best teddy in the world. All my childhood memories~
FrayedFlight Featured By Owner Jun 24, 2013
I was never really familiar with Telletubbies (and being in the US, never heard of Bamse), but I love this picture and the message. It makes me smile.

Was Tinky Winky gay or just liked to wear a tutu and look pretty? Either is fine. Both are perfectly normal and healthy.

I hate getting into arguments with people about what is "boy stuff" and what is "girl stuff." It's not boy stuff or girl stuff, it's YOUR stuff and you are fine the way you are, with what makes you happy. You are not hurting anyone. I grew up with a parent who thought they were helping by trying to enforce gender stereotypes. Instead, ended up with two kids who spent a long time being miserable and finally decided it was better to just do what made them happy instead.

Tinky always was my faorite, even before the gay theory came out. So yes, this makes me very happy.

You can do it!

Gay or not Tinky Winky
I will always be loved in my heart <3
Besides I grew up with Teletubbies when I was little
merrypaws Featured By Owner Jun 18, 2013
I always thought the Teletubbies were intentionally genderless, not really male or female in any definite way. It wasn't until the whole debate over Tinky Winky that I even started considering them in terms of gender.
DaMushroom Featured By Owner Jun 18, 2013  Hobbyist Artist
I remember the teletubbies! I loved them when I was little. I never thought of him as gay (of course I didn't know about gays then) When I was little I thought it was perfectly natural for him to wear that thing

I never thought that the purple tletubbie was gay. Just a silly little guy. I mean why put sexuality in a kid show. :/
