If you've been following me for a while, you'll have noticed my fascination with monks. I think they make amazing characters, and I always perk up when a monk shows up in a movie or TV series, no matter how pure and innocent or fucking terrible they are.
This is just a few of the many variants of Christian monk robes out there. A lot of them look too identical to be interesting lined up like this.
I was not aware of many of these.
Now I'm wondering how the robes of other members of the clergy differ... (former alter server, w00t w00t!) ...or like nuns (how DO you solve a problem like Maria?)...or from other religions... ~possibilities~
...actually, speaking of monks and nuns who solve crime, "The Falconer's Knot" had that and it was pretty good! ...that's all I can remember right now. ^^0
interesting pic ^^ and very cute
You're right, they always make awesome characters!
Btw, have you ever watched a movie called Black Death? It's great and the main character is a lovable monk X33
i love the one holding a flower.
Justin Law from soul eater.
He's part guillotine (long story)
Anyway, this little comparison picture is both cute and interesting to look at.
2 Carthusian - Kartäuser
3 Franciscan - Franziskaner
4 Monk of Saint Dominic, grumpy, perfect - Dominikaner
5, 6, 7 I have no idea. Maybe those are the walking outside styles, Dominicians have white ones and Benedictians also?
8 Maybe a Capuchin, can't see his belt, but the hood seems this way or a Hieronymite - Kapuziner (Namensgeber vom Kapuzineräffchen) oder Hieronymit
9 Cistercian - Zisterzienser
A lot are missing, like e.g. Augustinians, like Martin Luther was - Augustiner, Order of the Minims - Paulaner... but oh well, my youth.
