People keep asking about Love and Tentacles, but I'm sorry to say that comic is as good as dead. I might draw a picture once in a while because Frida can be fun to draw, but I don't even think about LaT most of the time, unlike my other comics which enter my head daily.

But people are apparently dying to know if Tom and Frida ever had kids, and if it could even be done. So I'll give you and explanation on that.

Tentaculas have reproductive tentacles around their waist (the thin pink ones that gets thick when they get aroused). Males and females rub them against each other  and release semen and eggs into water (in these modern times its usually a bathtub unless they're hippies). They are left to float around until the fertilized eggs hatch and the tiny young eats the un-fertilized eggs. Then they move on to swallowing each other, until only one is left. Sounds unpleasant, but that is why tentaculas in general are very healthy and handicaps are almost unheard of unless they get injured later in life. And of course it creeps Tom out that Frida ate her siblings at birth.

By some kind of movie magic humans and tentaculas can have children together, and Tom and Frida have a very tentacula-like child because otherwise it wouldn't be able to survive the whole process required for tentacula eggs to be fertilized in water, or live in water for months before starting a life on land.

I know this was posted a long time ago, but I just read it. (Looking for information on if you do commissions) This makes me sad. -sigh- So it goes. Just keep making the things in your head and I think I'll survive.

"Sounds unpleasant, but that is why tentaculas in general are very healthy and handicaps are almost unheard of"

What sort of ugenics based nonsense is this? There are plenty of heredtary diseases, such as parkinsons, sickle-cell or huntingtons diseases, which only develop later in life. Not to mention heredetary mental disorders. You can't honestly believe that natural selection among infants could in anyway assure a healthy population in a species.

The reason nonmammals lay many eggs is to increase the chance of ancestry, and the survival of their offspring depends primarily on their individial adaptation to their environment, not necessarily on how "healthy" they are.

Quite frankly I'm shocked to read such a thing on your profile.

Meh,I agree with him. I love to read fictional webcomics and stories based on real science or history. It makes all the more fun when authors use science, but twist it a little for Their stories. But that's just my opinion :)

Sometimes a story just loses its luster. Thank you for showing us what you have - and thank you for this info, too!

Maybe someday you'll feel the urge to come back and continue this, maybe you won't. Either way, you've brightened a lot of readers' days by writing/drawing this much, and I thank you for it!

So...what, did Tom HMHM into a tub of water that Frida laid her eggs in, or...what? How did it happen?

Huh. I kinda wonder if Tom would get protective over their kids; keep them from eating each other, so they end up with a million or so. On the other hand, maybe since they're part human there would be only a few in the first place.

arrgh... well played. That's some sweet uncanny right there. Just to imagine poor Tom having to watch how most of his children are eaten up and then having to love the remaining one... In his place I'd see if I can use another bathroom for that period.

I honestly wish you had continued the series somewhere where we wouldn't have to pay money, but it's fine. I know you have to make money somehow. XD

I honestly wondered what happened with those two after the series was discontinued here on Deviart. Aw well. I did like the series while it lasted here, and I guess it's nice knowing they had a kid?

I hope that the biological process allows the tentacula kid to grow up very quickly, much like many animals in harsh conditions, to be the size of a teenager, but the mindset of a kid. It would be interesting!

it's a morbid way of having kids to me, but when it's your natural process i say go ahead i guess  at least they're healthier than humans that way. it's cool that you thought their reproduction through so well

it kind of sounds like you either pulled the ending out of your butt or just decided to indulge the general population, but it was nice of you to think of us XD

Well, most of it makes sense as far as fantasy species go. I once came up with a fantasy species that has some very similar traits:
[link]
The only thing that seemed off even for fantasy was the lack of mention of adding more nutrients to the water in a bathtub. When I wrote up the Hashrul, I assumed that larvae feed on the stuff found in the ocean. (I also found it hilarious to reverse the trope about universal beauty: usually it's the human-like elven girl that is found beautiful by anyone from ratmen to ogres; it's fun to have a non-humanoid creature that is found beautiful by humanoids.)

As for compatibility with humans, well, it's a stretch, given the huge anatomical differences, but wouldn't be exactly implausible for a more similar species. I mean, if not just regular hybridisation, but also the rather interesting phenomenon of hybridogenesis exists in real nature, a fictional race should probably be given a pass.
Actually, I have a semi-plausible write-up of a hybridogenesis-only species that superficially looks like the incubus/succubus mythic reproduction, but turns out to subvert the trope in several ways (particularly personality).
