Nordic Halloween by humon Nordic Halloween by humon
An early Halloween comic. Idea by :iconsbaldur:

America is dressed as the Marvel god/superhero Thor, while the rest are dressed as the version of the gods from the comic "Valhalla". Sweden is dressed as Odin.

One superhero that for sure will never be taken seriously in Scandinavia is Thor. Ever. :XD:

"Valhalla" is a re-interpretation of the old myths. For example, even though heís a jackass, Loki doesnít turn more and more evil. Itís just the other gods who trust him less and less because he keep causing trouble, and in the end they start blaming him for things he didnít do.
In the story about Balderís death he doesnít intend for Balder to die. He just wanted to make a fool of Balderís brother Hod by making him think he could hurt his brother with a mistletoe. So Loki was just as surprised as everybody else when it killed Balder.
Neither did he betray the gods during Ragnarok. The jotuns captured him without the gods knowing, so when the battle started they saw him on the jotunsí side. He tried to get over to the gods, but was attacked by Heimdal.

In 1986 the comic got turned into a cartoon [link]

I love how Iceland's eyes are blue! *.*
And LOL at the beer ghost! ''Beer now?'' :D
Yep, I'm also kinda pissed at the american version of Thor. Nordic mythology is my favourite thing and the Marvel version is just... no. Please, no offence to americans.

I thought Thor and Tyr were the same thing. Was I wrong?

Tyr's pretty much the Nordic equivalent of Ares/Mars (if you're familiar with your Greco-Roman gods), so pretty much just the straight up god of war and battle. Thor's the god of thunder and is closer to being like Zeus/Jupiter.

I'm an American, but Marvel's interpretation of Thor just pisses me off. I love old myths, and Nordic ones are one of my faves.

Marvel Thor is just so painfully Americanized, he's like every viking stereotype thrown together with an American flag. D: No offense to Americans.

I read that Loke just helped keeping nature in balance by leading some of the jotun into battle and that Tor had almost caused it a thousand times because he killed the jotuns all the time

They kind of do the same thing you describe in "Journey Into Mystery" when Thor brings back Loki as Kid Loki and anytime he does anything, he isn't trusted because of everything he did in his previous life. He even buys a Stark Phone and everyone accuses him of stealing it. Poor kid, can't get a break. xD I still don't view Marvel's Loki as evil either. I think he likes to believe his evil and all powerful sometimes but, I think that the greatest thing about a Trickster is that they can even fool themselves. He'll NEVER be evil. Marvel of course didn't stay true to Nordic Mythology because that would not work well for a super hero story. xD It cracks me up to even imagine a horrible comic of the True Nordic Stories as "superhero comics". I like what Marvel did with them but, I think everyone who calls themselves a "fan" should learn about Nordic views on the true Loki and Thor.

It kinda makes sense that America would show up as Marvel Thor since from what I just found up from WIKIPEDIA MOTHER OF ALL INFORMATION ON THE NET! That Valhalla's of Danish make and origins...I imagine neither America or Canada have read it. X3
